RAA Reports Increased Concern Among South Australians Over Natural Disasters Following Los Angeles Wildfires

The Royal Automobile Association (RAA) has highlighted a growing worry among South Australians regarding natural disasters, a sentiment that has been heightened following the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

A survey conducted by the RAA revealed that a significant number of South Australians are increasingly concerned about the frequency and severity of natural disasters, drawing parallels with the devastating wildfires experienced in Los Angeles.

RAA Chief Executive Officer, Jane Smith, stated, “The Los Angeles wildfires have underscored the urgent need for preparedness and resilience against natural disasters. Our members are more aware and concerned about the potential impacts on their lives and communities.”

The survey indicated that:

  • 65% of respondents are more worried about bushfires and other natural disasters.
  • 58% believe that climate change is a contributing factor to the increasing frequency of such events.
  • 72% feel that more robust disaster management plans are necessary at the community level.

The findings come at a time when climate change continues to influence weather patterns globally, leading to more unpredictable and extreme natural events. The RAA emphasises the importance of community education and infrastructure improvement to mitigate the effects of future disasters.

In response to these concerns, the RAA is advocating for enhanced support systems and resources to help South Australians better prepare for and respond to natural disasters.
